A gorgeously faded old floral batik from Indonesia made by hand with a Cap or
Stem, a stamp used to pierce the wax coating on the material to let the dye get
to the cotton. It is not made by mechanically printing onto the cotton.
From the north coast of Java, this one is has a salmon coloured background and
mulit-coloured flowers in green, blue and purple. It has been used and has
faded with age, but very gracefully, to the point where the colours are truly
beautiful. It is in very good condition on good soft cotton.
A Kain is a piece of material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one
is 104cm high by 230cm long.
A superb example of Indonesian batik.
